INFORMATION YOU’LL NEED TO COMMENT
Impact reports, helpfully digesting the AF’s thousand-page Draft Environment Impact Statement (DEIS), are available at www.peacefulgilaskies.com, an informational website organized by a coalition of business and community leaders, sports and outdoor enthusiasts, veterans and concerned citizens. Click on the website’s menu button and choose “Resources.”
THREE WAYS TO SPEAK OUT
1 Show up at the public hearing in TorC on Tuesday, December 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at 405 W. Third. Your presence alone will signal your concern about the myriad threats posed to our quality of life and economy from this intended daily flyover of our towns, farms and ranches and natural lands.
2 Submit a written statement directly to the AF, either online at
www.HollomanAFBAirspaceEIS.com, or mailed to: Holloman AFB Airspace EIS, co/Cardno, 501 Butler Farm Road, Suite-H, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
3 Read a typed statement of three to five minutes in length at the hearing. Submit the typed statement after you speak.
ELEMENTS OF AN EFFECTIVE STATEMENT
1 Introduce yourself and explain why you have a personal stake in the AF’s deliberations.
2 Focus on a single impact–extreme noise, air pollution, risk of plane crashes or wildfire combustion, intimidation of livestock or wildlife–about which you have personal, specific and detailed knowledge.
3 If possible, point out errors in the DEIS, new information that would change the DEIS’s analysis or conclusions, or issues that the DEIS overlooked or inadequately explained.
4 Conclude with your support for either Alternative 4–no change to Holloman’s existing Military Operations Area (MOA)–or Alternative 1, which would expand by one million acres the existing MOA that Holloman uses over southeastern New Mexico east of Alamogordo. Even the AF acknowledges that Alternative 1 meets its training needs with the fewest risks and impacts.
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you in advance for helping to protect and preserve our blessings of clean air, quiet, unique cultural assets and beautiful natural areas.
