Double rainbow, T or C
With rain a rarity in Sierra County, an after-shower rainbow is a wonderment. The brief appearance of this even less-common double prism in the late afternoon of Dec. 10 caused many residents of Truth or Consequences to run out into the streets with cameras.
This photographer captured the beauty of the twin multicolored arches against a subtly modulated gray sky. But his choice to include, rather than crop, the picturesque downtown T or C street over which the rainbows curve doubles the viewing pleasure.
The positioning of a mundane street sign in the foreground artfully frames the composition. But it also serves to emphasize the unexpected and luscious radiance of the sign’s back side and stanchion as they reflect the glancing sunlight.
